Voice eXtensible Markup Language (VoiceXML--TM) Version 1.0

This document specifies Voice XML, the Voice Extensible Markup Language. Voice XML is designed for creating audio dialogs that feature synthesized speech, digitized audio, recognition of spoken and DTMF key input, recording of spoken input, telephony, and mixed-initiative conversations. Aspects of VoiceXML addressed in this document include VoiceXML elements, forms, menus, links, variables and expressions, grammars, event handling, resource fetching, prompts, executable content, etc. This document was desinged for speech-based telephony applications. The goal of this specification is to bring the advantages of web-based development and content delivery to interactive voice response applications.
Other Standards: Where a specific application envirnoment does not require all the features of v1.0, exceptions should be clearly noted, and publicly documented as a subset of VoiceXML 1.0. For more information on the VoiceXML Forum, visit the website at http://www.voicexml.org .
