Federal Guidelines for Security Certification and Accreditation of Information Technology (IT) Systems -- NIST Special Pub. 800-37

This publication details the first government-wide standards for assessing the security level of individual IT systems. The document presents consistent, comparable and repeatable system-level evaluations that will permit agencies to understand one another's level of security when communicating.
